You have look at a point beyond the thing you are looking at. If you try to look at the reflection of yourself on the monitor screen then focus on the screen without changing the convergence point of your eyes. you might have some success…

You actually have to diverge your eyes, not cross them. I’m physically incapable of crossing my eyes but a champ at diverging. I don’t know how I’d instruct someone else to do it, but I’d say in general, actually *relaxing* the eyes helps.
