In the beginning of the Fedora versions, Firefox/Thunderbird rpm updates were always hard to find (the recent versions came with Fedora, but you mostly had to build the updates.) But, the major repos for FC5 have kept up with new versions of Firefox/Thunderbird pretty well.

The problem I have is that the updates (rpm) are placed in a new directory and the symbolic links are never updated in the new plugin directory! I always have to find the new Firefox plugin directory and "ln -s" the java and squeak plugin! If there's a better way, I'd like to know it.

Not a moron. Downloading FireFox for Linux distros is a pain in the butt, and some Linuxes are actively hostile to stepping outside their package managers these days. (yum or apt-get).

I tried to make the jump on Ubuntu from 1.0.x to 1.5, and it was too hard (back a few months ago, or whenever 1.5 came out.) I gave up because I didn't feel like compiling it myself.

They seem to be a little quicker on the uptake now, though.

I suspect it's not because you're a Linux moron, but because everyone involved with Firefox on Linux expects Linux distributors to handle the compiling and packaging part, so regular Linux users never need to download the source code.
