Yes we Can – Now with our images

The creators of the amazing “Yes We Can” Obama video have a new version up that renders the video using a mosaic of Flickr photos — easier to see than explain. If you want your photo to show up in it, post it at Flickr and tag it “hopeactchange.”
Interestingly, the “act” page of the site lists the Web sites of all the candidates, not just Obama’s
The original video I found moving and inspiring. Re-rendering it using images from everyone who cares to participate is not going to change the world or even change any minds. It’s symbolic. Good. When the current symbols of America are George W. Bush and waterboarding, it’s not so bad to have a “we” symbol show up in our mirror.

I like their use of black and white, but for my taste overall it’s a little too Kumbaya-ish.
This is saying nothing against Obama, but this video is all emotion and little for the left brain to process. Flabby platitudes instead of lean logic. He is a professor of constitutional law after all.
And the deal with Flickr: I guess when they get more photos you’ll eventually see what’s going on in the video (like Scarlett J. trying to decide if she should start a singing career or not), and be able to say, “Hey, that’s my picture in all it’s 1×1 pixel glory!”
I think I’ll pick up his memoir, “Dreams From My Father,” just to hear him describe his upbringing. I don’t need someone to dangle an appetizing celeb in front of my maw to catch my attention. I’ll just stick with the entrée.
Bill K, I understand your reaction, but does it help to keep in mind that: 1. This original video came from supporters, not from the Obama campaign; 2. It’s intended, I assume, for supporters, not as a persuasive vehicle; 3. The speech the music is set to is one part of one speech; you can find plenty of substance in Obama’s positions, starting with this tech policy. 4. You will NOT find much substance in Audacity of Hope. I found it inspirational in some ways but disappointing on policy.
