Also, nonfiction can be surprising in ways that fiction cannot. Nonfiction is bound by Truth and Fact which offers a literal universe of opportunity for expression. OTOH fiction must curry and respect our suspension of disbelief and therefore remains tethered to what we already know. You can only go so far in fiction.

Counterintuitive. Counter counterintuitive: Grapes of Wrath is one of the truest books I’ve read.
