Verizon turned off free tethering with Android 2.2 (“froyo”), I believe. They do manage to sell it at some ungodly price. PDAnet works on 2.2.

Since I started using HTC phones years ago, I no longer have such problems – I just switch “wireless router” on the phone, and connect any PC, Mac or Windows alike.

Steve Jobs only knows why it can’t be that easy with iPhones :-)
