Applause replaced laughter during the first season of LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN, 1993-94. Compare the final season of LATE NIGHT and you’ll hear the difference. By no coincidence that was the same time studio audiences transitioned from staying seated to leaping to their feet at the opening ovation (although technically Arsenio started the trend by just having everyone on their feet when he walked in).

I didn’t know it was on until I saw this at 12:35, so I’ll have to catch it somewhere. I was too busy watching for more news about the “47%” to see what Gov. Romney was going to do with it. On Jon Stewart there was an old clip of Romney’s mother talking about how his father was on public assistance (unless it was his grandfather)! Wow.
