US to Invade The Netherlands

According to Human Rights Watch, in order to protect US soldiers from being brought to justice for any war crimes they may commit, Bush has signed (well, last August) a new law that

... authorizes the use of military force to liberate any American or citizen of a U.S.-allied country being held by the [International Criminal] court, which is located in The Hague.

Since the Hague (or "den Haag" as those beastly Dutch refer to it) is in the Netherlands, this has stirred up some consternation. Dutch blogger and future enemy soldier, Niek Hockx, has blogged about this amusingly.

In protest of Holland's outrageous aiding and abetting of The Hague, I pledge that from now on, when my girlfriend and I each pay our own way, I will refer to it as "going freedom." Also, I'll refer to the tree blight as "Freedom Elm Disease." That that, Wooden Shoe Legal Pot boy!

But what will we call Reagan now? All of Edmund Morris' books will have to be recalled, right alongside Casablanca and Family Affair. Such losses for our much-suffering entertainment moguls!

How can anyone be an allied with such a sorry bunch of idiots?
;)

Either the US of A has really lost it by now, or Human Rights Watch has got it all wrong.

Any american soldier charged with war crimes will be brought to justice by the International Criminal Court, regardless of the position of the US government. It is simply not for them to decide.

Will the USA invade Holland to free their citizens? I think not. The cost would be too high. The USA would lose the last fig leave of dignity and respect in the world, not to speak of the loss of income from the entire European continent.

USA may be the greatest military power in the world, but it is outweighed by the stupidity of it's socalled leadership.

I LOVE americans and the US. I hate to see them fuck up the way they do it these days.

Get over it and get real.

Mr. Langemark--you simply do not understand us here in the USA, just as bin laden didn't when he recently made that moronic appearance to sway the election...anyone who tries to capture our soldiers, is cannon fodder...yes, this includes the Dutch, the French, the English, the Swedes, etc....just as you seem to think that the US has 'no power in the matter', neither will the Netherlands have any say, and you will realize this when you see cruise missiles, Naval artillery and 2000 pound LGB's softening up the Hague, to safely deploy Delta force and clean up any resistance, reclaim our soldiers and/or their remains, and helo back to the nuclear aircraft carrier sitting just off your coast. "We love the Dutch" also, but if you kidnap our military personnel, I hope you will remember what we did to the North Vietnamese.....thank you for your time, Curt

Curt, this is what by now the rest of the world calls a typical American reaction. And you wonder why that same world starts to dislike the US more and more?

We will defend our soldiers and prosecute those that commit war crimes OURSELVES. We don't need international courts to do anything for us, nor will we tolerate international laws being applied to those that defend this nation.

I would expect that Holland would do the same for its soldiers and would SUPPORT THEM FULLY. I would support military action to assist them, they are our friends. You see, Holland is a just nation, much like the United States. I can understand prosecution of war crimes if it's being initiated at a high level of government but the simple fact is that we don't need international courts that violate an American's right to a fair trail to punish our own citizens. If they act out against international law, they are still Americans and will be tried in an AMERICAN COURT where AMERICAN LAW is applied.

They will receive a FAIR trail devoid of any political agenda. They will be tried by a jury of their PEERS, not foreigners. You have no right to punish American citizens, that's our job.

Also to suggest that the "Cost" of invading Holland would be too high, please. I guarantee you that if we were to attack Holland it would be with just cause and the continent of Europe would support us, minus maybe France and who wants them on their side? Can't manufacture white flags fast enough to keep them supplied. /jk.

Anyway, America doesn't invade anyone for selfish reasons. We hand territory back to the people of the nations we do have to enter. We have paid dearly over the years and gained only friends out of the actions.

We consider Holland to be our friend, but like any friend there are things that go along with us that you may not like but you learn to live with it. We are not war like people, we are Liberators. Name a country that we have entered with force in the past century that doesn't have free elections. Vietnam. Oh yeah, we pulled out and let the VC have their way. We learned our lesson. It won't happen again, the cost in South Vietnam lives was far too high.

The idiots at the Human rights committee have it wrong in my view. I support Bush because he supports our soldiers. He made a statement to say we will not tolerate an international court putting our soldiers on trial. I agree and would want nothing else for Holland, France, England, Scotland, etc, etc, etc. If you want to debate what good the international court is... How about Sadaam? Should he be tried in Iraq by the people of the country he dominated or by an international trial? I say his own people should judge him.

Most Americans like myself see the international court as a joke, much like the UN. It's a joke, nothing more. Decades of "resolutions" have resulted in very little action. Some times you have to back your words with action or you begin to get the reputation of "big mouth" and people begin to challange you. When that happens you see 9/11 style attacks. America is new to large terrorist attacks, but unlike some of the European nations, we fight back with the full force of the American military. God willing that will never change.

Don't ever forget that when you speak to an American, insulting his government is the same as insulting him directly. We ELECTED our leaders and we stand behind them. They aren't alone in their views or they wouldn't get elected. Millions in this country support G.W. Bush and what he brings to the table. Calling him an idiot is calling ME an idiot. Not a good way to make friends. I don't rant and rave over the Government you choose to select and believe me, I could express my views and make you feel very negative about me if not your own government. The simple fact is that it's not your business who we elect, nor is it my business how your country runs things...until that country starts infringing on the rights of our citizens. If that happens, may God help you. You'll need it.
