Ulrich is a journalist doing public relations for the Technische Universitat Dresden's Civil Engineering department. (His presentation is here.) He tried to get 50 faculty members to start up a weblog. It was difficult to cajole them into it. He wants them to write in a journalistic style, not academic. He needed simple tools and thus turned to blogger.com, although he would like to be able to search and comment. The site has been up for about half a year. It has a small following, but Ulrich is working on make it more valuable and more known. Posted

Hrrm, a work weblog publicly accessible on the net?
The google translation is rough but this looks like internal type of discussion.
We've got 4 weblogs running in my group for the various teams. Blogger won't work behind the company firewall and it's capabilities are limited.
We licensed MT and had modified it in a few ways to work internally. The import of 9000 records of our previous shift log system worked fairly smoothly.
IMHO, work weblogs or k-logs, are a breed unto themsleves with slightly different needs than personal weblogs. Wedging blogger into the gap may work for a while, but in the long run the needs will diverge and so will the apps.

@Michael
Michael, this isn't meant to be a work weblog, it is definetly written for the public - because my aim is that the people outside the university get notice of what's going on there.
Thanks for your comments on Blogger vs. MT, I will consider your suggestions!

Hello, Ulrich. I am one of the engineering librarians at the University of Alberta, and also edit a blog called The (sci-tech) Library Question. I'm intrigued by your blog, and really like its purpose, to get people outside the U to learn what's happening there. I am posting information on your blog to The STLQ; however, I cannot see your presentation, the link does not seem to work, and I would like to add it to the post. (Link: http://193.171.60.17:8080/blogtalk/Filer/filetree/papers/inandout.pdf) Can you help?

Randy, thanks for your comment. I put the paper on our server, so you may link to http://www.tu-dresden.de/biw/baublog/InAndOut.pdf to get the 1.5 MB PDF. If this doesn_t work, just send me an email to uvs@stipriaan.de !
