Guess whose hard drive crapped out again? Third time in a week, second time for this particular hard drive. Guess who's facing spending another 30+ hours reloading the same goddamn software and rebuilding his work environment? Guess who's wishing he'd named his new 180G drive "WESTERN DIGITAL SUCKS"? Guess who's ready to take a job pounding used bricks so long as it doesn't involve any data entry? Posted

I really wouldn't give the same hard drive a third chance to get crappy. There are only 2 kinds of hard drives, those that have crashed and those that are about to. Luckily I only have experience with the latter, but I am very paranoid about the possibility. I have had great success with Western Digital and would not buy another brand, having bought and installed almost a dozen of them over the years. I sense your frustration.
I am trying to save you some trouble, I would not give it another chance. If you are not doing anything different, why would you expect different results?
Good luck

Ditch the drive and pick up another one. If you really want to be data safe pick up two and make a RAID 1 array so all your data is redundently stored. As to Western Digital sucking...I've found them to be the most reliable brand actually. I've yet to have a drive fail (out of about 25-30 I've used/installed) where Maxtor has crapped out with every purchase and Seagate hasn't been much better. Just make sure you stear far, FAR away from Fujistu (sp?) drives

Had a WD HDD (60 GB) For 4 aprox. years (summer 2001 - spring 2005) and suddenly, the thing STARTED JUMPING (yes, the HDD is JUMPING everytime I turn on the computer) as usual, i guess the whole information is lost.
I'll do that thing of changing the power source and look for a cheap replacement for now. The old Samsung HDD i had 7 years ago still works to my surprise (not the same with the WD HDD)
