Linux boosters (and aren't we all?) should be slightly cheered to know that my rebuilt basement PC failed to install Windows 2000 in the same way it failed to install Linux. Looking very much like a hw issue. I've just the flashed the BIOS, but now we're leaving for the 4th so I won't know if it worked for a few days. Good. I could stand the break. Damn computers. Somehow you have offended the PC gods.
You need to send them some sort of offering in penance. I suggest sacrificing some analog things like paper notebooks and pencils and placing fruit and incense in front of the PC.

Also, chicken bones and black candles never hurt. Many a tech support problem has been solved through my magic bones and candles method.
