Ever wonder what your Palm Vx would look like if you backed your car over it?

So, now I'm in the market for a replacement. I use it as a portable copy of my Outlook (shudder) address book. Battery life, easy syncing, and cost all count. (I am not looking for an integrating cellphone.) Suggestions?

Handspring Treo 90...

Don't leave your PDA in the driveway. ;)

I'm an absolute convert. Palm TungstenC. WiFi that works great. Seamleass Outlook integration with everything. 64M memory with slot for more. Browser that makes for reasonably easy moblogging if you like. Best handheld in the market that I could find.

I upgraded from a Vx to a TungstenT this past January and love it. The screen is amazing, makes reading eBooks an absolute joy.

I’m wondering why you chock your tires with a PDA. . . .

Jeez ... at least tell us *how* you ran over it. Did it fall out of your pocket? Did you put it on the trunk and forget it was there?

I've been very happy with my 8MB Handspring Visor Deluxe which I've used since March 2001. Visor no longer sells them but you ought to be able to get one inexpensivley on eBay. Handspring's DateBook+ has some nice enhancements (additional views) relative to stock Palm DateBook. 2 AAA alkaline batteries last 20-25 days with moderatly heavy use. This model is a bit bigger than any Palm system you're likely to buy new today.

Have you tried just printing out your address book from time to time and folding it up? It might even fit in your wallet.

the hp ipaq 2215 is the way to go. sd/cf/bluetooth lots of memory, even works great on a mac with missing sync. i have a nokia 3650 and use that with it...and i have a wifi card so i can use wifi. it's on my site, it's a great device.

cheers,
pt

Your picture is much funnier than the one I made of mine with sea water under the screen but reflective of comparable intelligence at work.

I'd go with the Tungsten C recommendation above. I don't see how anyone who half-way enjoys his or her Palm from the point of view of efficiency could ever be satisfied with the PocketPC alternatives. It seems to be state-of-the-art from all I read.

Inquiring minds what to know what you decided to do based on this world class group of professional suggestions?

David, the only REAL replacement would be another Vx. I can send you mine: Still working but not used for a month or two since I bought my Tungsten T ;-)

Buzz, I haven't decided what to do. The Tungsten flies in the face of my desire for something minimal and cheap, although it sure looks snazzy. I'm leaning towards either another Vx or maybe an upgrade to one of the low-end color Palms. But I'm not feeling any great urgency at the moment.

As to how I backed over it: Through stupidity. I put my backpack next to the car because I was moving the car so that I could take the one behind it. But the bag tipped over...
