MSIE 6 has been crashing on me for several weeks now. I've installed the latest patches. I've turned the Java and JIT compiler off and on. But still it crashes on pages that, say, Opera has no trouble with. For example, I can get MSIE 6 to crash by sending it to this page from the Washington Post. Weird. And annoying. Posted

Firebird.

Try deleting all IE Temporary files. (In order to do this 100%, you need to start up in safe mode. Somewhere at the MS site is a recipe for doing this 100%.)
Also try setting all your IE Advanced options back to default.

Firebird seconded.

Firebird: if their recommendations don't persuade you, this will. Look at the extensions: lots of power there.
It's replaced IE6 as my default browser at work.

I've been using Opera as my default browser, but I'm downloading Firebird now. Thanks.

MS posted a flurry of IE security upgrades during the spring to address a bug allowing third parties to eavesdrop on cookies for a particular site - some of the patches were bad anc crash explorer. They cannot be uninstalled.

Thanks for the Info Claus, I just updated my wifes browser to IE6 and will keep the updates off. Since IE is the OS this should keep windows from crashing I hope.
