XP Hacks

I'm greatly enjoying Windows XP Hacks by Preston Gralla (from O'Reilly). There are at least double that number of hints and tips. These are mainly ones I'd never heard of. And to think all these years I never knew about the Group Policy Editor! (Type gpedit.msc into the Run menu.)

Note: "Get a Mac" does not count as an XP hack.

I found this hack based on a pervious hack i read up on i dont know how far it can be took but i think there is alot of potenchial so here is how to do it only works for windows XP:
-open a .txt file and type
cd\
cd\windows\system32
mkdir temphack
copy cmd.exe temphack\cmd.exe
copy logon.scr temphack\logon.scr
del logon.scr
reanme cmd.exe logon.scr
exit
(go to save as and save as a .bat file)
after double click this file, it will execute.
what you have done is changed the screen saver at the logon screen to a command prompt. logoff sit for about ten minutes, the screen saver will boot but it will be a command prompt when you get the command prompt type
cd\windows\system32
taskmgr.exe

a task manager will apear. when you do this go to run under the file menu and type
explorer

now your screen will apear like a user is loged on. This is the furthest ive got but i know there is more

How to hack Windows XP Admin Passwords the easy
This hack will only work if the person that owns the machine
has no intelligence. This is how it works:
When you or anyone installs Windows XP for the first time your
asked to put in your username and up to five others.
Now, unknownst to a lot of other people this is the only place in
Windows XP that you can password the default Administrator Diagnostic
Account. This means that to by pass most administrators accounts
on Windows XP all you have to do is boot to safe mode by pressing F8
during boot up and choosing it. Log into the Administrator Account
and create your own or change the password on the current Account.
This only works if the user on setup specified a password for the
Administrator Account.

This has worked for me on both Windows XP Home and Pro.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now this one seems to be machine dependant, it works randomly(don't know why)

If you log into a limited account on your target machine and open up a dos prompt
then enter this set of commands Exactly:
(this appeared on www.astalavista.com a few days ago but i found that it wouldn't work
on the welcome screen of a normal booted machine)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
cd\ *drops to root
cd\windows\system32 *directs to the system32 dir
mkdir temphack *creates the folder temphack
copy logon.scr temphack\logon.scr *backsup logon.scr
copy cmd.exe temphack\cmd.exe *backsup cmd.exe
del logon.scr *deletes original logon.scr
rename cmd.exe logon.scr *renames cmd.exe to logon.scr
exit *quits dos
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now what you have just done is told the computer to backup the command program
and the screen saver file, then edits the settings so when the machine boots the
screen saver you will get an unprotected dos prompt with out logging into XP.
Once this happens if you enter this command minus the quotes
"net user password"
If the Administrator Account is called Frank and you want the password blah enter this
"net user Frank blah"
and this changes the password on franks machine to blah and your in.

hey i need some help here... im on the same comp as my parents and until recently was a network administrator. THEN my a much younger family member started playin with the computer while my parents were on so their password has been changed to god knows what and i am now a limited account user with an unknown password. she seemed to think this very funny because she, a limited account user (she changed hers to limited trying to be funny in changing things on her account as well) and none of the rest of us know our passwords. if you can tell me anyway that i can change my account type and hers to administrator without a lot of hassle it would be greatly appreciated.

Posted by: DoMiNiCo | August 5, 2004 10:08 PM

My little brother changed the password on his computer recently, but when he tried to use it only the old password worked. He thought maybe if he restarted the computer it would set the password as the new one. Now, unfortunately, neither of them work. If there is a way, or program i can download to get pass this problem without re-installing everything it would be awesome. Please email me at Goodoleboys@hotmail.com if you have any suggestions, thanks!

Posted by: Bob | August 8, 2004 07:06 PM

For the solution you posted. It doesnt seem to work because it says access is denied when I try to create ANYTHING in the \windows directory. Is there any way I can bypass this... My computer is completely stuck because my brother changed the password for the administrator, and I can barely do anything on this limited account!

Posted by: Victor | August 25, 2004 09:14 AM

For those people who have lost or had their password changed on them, here is a good boot cd that enables you to reset any password on your system.

good luck !

If youre on a network you can remote shutdown anyones computer. first open command prompt and type in "net view" without the "", this shows everyone thats logged onto the network. then at the run prompt type in "shutdown -i" for the GUI version of the shutdown prompt. make a list of any computer name that you saw using net view, and shut down their computer.

Posted by: steve | October 25, 2004 05:06 PM

the only way i have axces to a comand prompt is by using notepad and typing in iether start or cmd and save it as a bat file in my directory(at my school)
and even then it just repedidly types in the start or cmd and will not let me type anything.
Any other way to get correct axcess to a prompt?
please Email me or post it here. thanks.

I was wondering if there is any way to find a password out without deleating it and creating a new one. The f8 thing works, but unless u know the old password the administrator will know you changed it. I just want to find out the password.

Posted by: chase | April 25, 2005 12:21 AM

if you type the administrators username such as Administrator of Admin then in the password box, just put the following code: -

Test

Then it will allow access and show you the normal password.

Good luck :)

to rest any pass word is easy as long as it is not a bios look . all u got to do is turn the computer off and take the batter out for 1 hour and put the batter back in and start it i did it 1 time and it worked there was no password at all after that

Posted by: Homicidal | July 25, 2005 01:24 AM

Is it possible to find out the administrator password without changing it, so that you will gain access without getting busted?
All I know is
net user administrator cmd
but that changes the password to cmd and will be notised eventually...

HOW TO HACK INTO THE SCHOOL COMPUTER NETWORKING SYSTEM IN 10 STEPS!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Restart the Computer and just after it has finnished loading the BIOS settings
press F8. Then it should come up with a screen saying run Windows XP. and
down the bottom, it will say press F8 again for more options. Press F8 Again.

2. Select "Safe Mode" then press enter.

3. when it has fully loaded up, click start then run. Type in "regedit" and press enter.

4. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > software > Microsoft > Windows NT >
Current Version > Winlogon > Special accounts > UserList.

5. In the right Panel, right click anywhere that is blank, and select New > DWORD
Value.

6. Name the new DWORD value whatever you want your new username to be.

7. Doubble click the it after you have re-named it. and change the Value Data to "1".

8. Close the registary editor, then click start > RUN, and type in "cmd".

9. Command prompt will open. type in "net user @@@@@@@@@@ * " and instead
of putting in the @ symbols, type in what ever you named the DWORD value that you
created before. MAKE SURE YOU PUT AN ASTERISK (*) AFTER the DWORD VALUE
THAT YOU MADE.

10. It will say "Type a password for the user: " put whatever you want your password to be
there. Then when you press enter, it will say to confirm the password. Note, when you
are typing the password, it will not show up on the screen so type carefully. once you've
done that, you have created yourself an administrator account and can log on anytime you
like as an admin.

i no theres a way to make a computer screen red and flip everythign upside down on it but i dont remeber the bottons u push to do that if anyone could remind me that would be great thanks again

hay Some Guy, i like your network hacking solution to make an admin account, it works like CHARM and is very easy and effective. shot bro.

Posted by: Greg | September 12, 2005 02:58 AM

I feel unsafe after logging onto an admin's account like at school. The hacks above do prove useful, but i'm worried about any traces left behind after logging on, such as the password, or dates of when a program has been executed. Is there anything to be warned about? Like any file you must delete or modify before logging out?

I recently recieved a Panasonic Toughbook cf-48y from my dad. i did a fresh install of XP pro SP2 on it (without a product key-got one from a sp crack site). installed my programs and tried to activate XP. System told me i had an unauthorized key so i downloaded a crack program that would fake windows into thinking that it was activated. here lies the problem. i ran the program (not in safe mode-stupid me)and it restarted. now every time i try to start my computer i get a blue screen (not THE Blue Screen) that appears for about 1/2 second and restarts. my computer shows that XP loads but it restart right before the login screen appears. on the blue screen it seems to show that there is a reg error (it shows a hex value for the file, the screen is only on there for about half a second so its hard to know if its a reg error, only speculation). Assistance would be greatly appreciated as well as a valid pro key (can do without if i must). how do i fix this problem without doing a fresh install?

i can't do anythings requiring .bat files because the laptop won't allow me to execute any files other than the ones it already does. And i can't do anything in safe mode because it still ask for a user name and password from admin, which i don't know... so any other suggestions?

Posted by: Anonymous | October 14, 2005 09:47 PM

to all you guys out there giving lengthy stories about forgetting passwords etc... give up, they are see through... for those of your that are legit, your stupid for letting the idiots have those rights in the first place...

no one should ever run as full admin, its a nightmare waiting to happen...

as for getting passwords... do a little bit of research people... not everyone likes to hand there info out on a silver platter... and the petri.co link given earlier is well worth folowing, considering people asked about getting the pwords one after that, they obviously didnt click the link !!!

oh... BartPE is the other suggest, windows live.. else, something like:
Julex
DSL
Knoppix etc live linux CDs, also Ubuntu Live for higher end systems

what about hacking admin passwd when there is also password on bios, and no other boot is enabled?! is there any other way to crack password or gain some user rights (like change system time) on limited account?

I had to replace my hardrive and my XP pro cd loaded ok. But I couldn't get it registered. So, I had a 120 day evaluation version that I loaded. I would like to fix this so it won't expire after 120 days. I don't want to keep turning the clock back. Thanks.

I tried the "10 Easy Steps" thing and I've been looking around on Google all night trying to find a way to either create an admin user on a limited account, get into my mom's admin account without having to change her password, (find out her pass, etc.), or just some kind of registry code or ANYTHING that will allow me to do things like download music and stuff from the internet on a limited account. I've had this problem for YEARS - my mom has the only computer in the house and usually she doesn't let anyone on but recently she gave everyone limited accounts and now I'm trying to get admin privledges somehow... PLEASE HELP, I'M DESPERATE and I've already tried lots of stuff on this site and others that doesn't work. (Like with that "10 Easy Steps" thing, I can't figure out how to get the comp to start in safe mode, just "LAN mode", whatever that is.. F8 isn't even an option on mine, and I went ahead and tried doing the registry and command stuff but it wouldn't let me create a new DWORD or whatever). Thank you soooo much if you have any suggestions that will actually work!!!

for those of you who want to open comand prompt on a school computer and cant use notepad, if you have visual basic you can make a program that will open the command prompt. Simply place a button on the form and double click it to open up the code view, then type "Shell ("cmd.exe")". You can then run the program form the visual basic environment even if you dont have the rights to run exe's from your area. Once in command prompt to get a list of user's type "net user" and you will see a list of users appear on your screen, you can then replace the password on any of these by typing "net user username pasword" and pressing enter

You guys should try to do the 10 steps to create a administrator account and then get Proactive System Password Recovery made by elcomsoft, yo can get it either by paying the full software or getting it on any P2P networking (eMule) with crack included. I've done it many times and I figure out all the Admin passwords without changing them and log on any account as many times as I want.

There is another simple variant for getting any Logon password for windows XP which any newbie could use, by using the XP Logon Password Logger, a simple utility using a low level keyboard driver that logs keystrokes from the Windows Logon. You can Google to find it an it.s widely available. You can use this proggy if you pass the following 2 conditions: 1. Have the rights to Disable antivirus software (if running) on the machine during the installation proccess, becasue major AV's detect it as a virus and 2. have access to Administrator type account for at least a few seconds to install the progy (the program needs Administrator rights to install) or manage to "convince" the admin to install it (?! only if he.s absolutely stupid...haha) or manage to get it installed in some, another malicious way.

here at school the computers make us all logg in on low level accounts. Which means we cant do anything but use word excel etc. We cant even run .exe files. We sometimes have access to the internett.

Is it possible to hack these computers so i have all admin rights?

When i turn on the computer everything is normal. But after i have logged in on the low level account it runs a script which gives me extremely low access.

um, how can you make a dir in the system32 folder if you on a limited account??? See, I thought limited accounts deny access to making changes in the folder, so would anyone care to explain how you can make a dir and copy the logon.scr? Not doubting that it will work from a bat file, but is it really making a copy? has anyone recovered the files? Or is it just access denied? Might I recommend that before anyone do this, they back up the files by hand in the my documents folder?

If you can't get Command Prompt(because of limited accounts and such) open notepad and type
command.com
then save the file as command.bat and close notepad.
after you've closed notepad, open the command.bat file and you're into command prompt, tada!

If you want to shutoff the school's ability to remote(view your desktop while your on it)
type in command prompt:
net stop "remote access connection manager"
USE THE QUOTES OR IT WON'T WORK!
if it's worked it will say command completed or somthing along those lines
the second way I know is to open command prompt and type regedit
after you've done this a new window will pop up;
click on the plus sign of the folder that says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Scroll down the list until you come to the folder called microsoft, click the plus sign on this folder to open it.
continue to scroll down while looking for a folder called remote desktop, this is the folder you want to delete, I hope this helped!

Ok, to reset the admin password:
1.)open command prompt
2.)type net user administrator *
3.)hit enter
4.)type in the password, it won't show up, but it's there.
5.)re-type the password, (the same one you've just typed!)
6.)hit enter
7.)finished!

hey, I've just remembered another way of shutting of the remoting ability.
(You must be an administrator to do this)
this is the keyboard shortcut version:
hold down the windows flag button at the same time as pause break and a window will come up.
click the tab named Remote.
now just uncheck the check boxes!

the hard way:
right click on My Computer, then scroll down to the choice proporties, click on that option
a window will come up, click the tab name Remote
now uncheck all the check boxes!

How to send messeges with cmd:
open command prompt.
type net send /domain:your_network_name your_message

and that's all there is to it!
but, if you do this everyone will recive the message and know where it came form as it will say "Messege from your_name to name the_message"
but it won't matter if your an admin, oh, and the firewall really needs to be off or this won't work, you'll get a messenger not working error or the message will be taken as a HACK ATTACK attempt

Posted by: S2 | May 18, 2006 11:03 AM

Yeah, it's called Messenging. This is how you do it:

1.open note pad or the command prompt
2.type net send /domain:thenetworkname your_messege

and that's all there is to it, please note that this won't work if a firewall is turned on, and that the messege box will say EXACTLY WHERE it came from, and by who.

Yo..... have you ever tryed to do something with your life.. do some big times. Try to hack something thats make a point ! use a proxy server or a telnet server cant tell you how to do it just can give some idear's but be carefull. find out whay you wanna do tha attack and when. now find a way inside and then do the attack... dont do it from you'r home pc or a pc where you need a login !! go to the local libery or something !!!

now after you have done the attack you dont speak about it. you dont tell anyone about it. too big risk. And Caboom Jaill time !! go borrow a freinds computer heheh !!! make sure not to get youre ass whiped !!

Posted by: H8 em m8 em get the get the pass.... | May 21, 2006 01:03 PM

Yeah, hacking someone's computer is really intelligent, right? Oh, not to mention that almost everyone has blocked the telnet feature, Windows XP home ed. has completely diabled this feature. The error that shows up is: "You are not allowed on this server, please ask the server administrator to allow you to log in." The firewall completly stops it by blocking the ports in which your computer can get in, I know, I've scanned my dad's several times and nothing. Command prompt hacking is too old, If you want to 'hack' find another romting tool, I personally like the free internet trials for thirty days set.

Help! I keep getting this message on my computer, This copy of Windows is not genuine[0x80080208]
You may be a victim of software counterfeiting. The Windows product key installed on this computer is not genuine

How can I change the key, is there an easy and afforardable way! I'm fairly new to all this stuff! Thanks!

Posted by: Jim Gordon | May 25, 2006 11:54 AM

I've found out how to make un-deletable files, and encrypted files that only you, or who you permit, can access! This is how you do it:

1.) Open cmd, or what ever command prompt you're using.
2.) type cacls the_drive_name:\the_file_name /p administrator:N
3.) it will ask Y/N enter y
4.)type cacls the_same_drive_name:\the_same_file_name /p your_account_name:F
5.) it will ask Y/N enter y
6.) done, TADA!!! now only you can: open, delete or write to this file!

Posted by: GUYVER_911 | May 25, 2006 05:03 PM

to Jim:

Jim, have you tried a KeyGen????
If not, you should use...umm, I can't name the Peer to peer shareware, but use a sharing program to find a Windows XP keygen, and that should fix your problem!

Posted by: GUYVER_911 | May 26, 2006 04:43 PM

I can't actually tell you how to break into windows and steal copyrighted software, but what you need is a KEYGEN!!!

Posted by: GUYVER_911 | May 31, 2006 06:10 PM

If your brother is the admin, wait till he gets on the computer and then kick him off and chage the password how I've said sooooo many times before, and wala! You've fixed the problem!

u can disable command promt with wintweaker and all ways around dosen't work.

how do u run progreams in safe mode cuase if i can u just run saminside and tada it get's all the passwords. plz help.

Posted by: ms | June 1, 2006 05:35 AM

Running safe mode will only work if you don't have to log into the computer in the old fashion-when a box pops up and asks you your user name, password and what domain you wish to log into. Other than that, just crash your computer(restart, then before it boots up properly, restart it again) and select start up with safe mode.

Posted by: GUYVER_911 | June 3, 2006 10:21 PM

Two Items:
#1 The bests way to get a password is to put
an "inline keylogger" between the Computor and
The key board(Some advanced security software-
may pick it up though!)
#2 For the Dude with the "Non Legit" software
go to "help & support area" and run "System-
Restore" back to an Earler date.
* Note shut off your MS system updates or make
sure you dont load any "Software Validation
updates"(Hell Im just an amateur and I figured
this out)

Posted by: Ope | June 10, 2006 02:26 AM
