This comes from the blog of Iran's vice president:
First, need I point out how remarkable it is that a vice president is blogging so frankly and so personally? I can certainly see why the upheaval in Iraq from outside the US looks like it should be helpful to the incumbent president. And we do hear the Republicans talking about not changing horses in midstream (or, as someone put it recently, not changing horses in mid-Apocalypse:). But surely the Republicans would be happier if Iraq were stable, democratic and quiet, for they get the bulk of the blame for the war not going well. Another attack on the US homeland, however, would (IMO) greatly favor the Republicans because they are more capable of the sort of intemperate response that we would emotionally want. It'd be the sort of classic id vs. superego battle that the superego always loses. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. And, in my book, hope is something you work for. By the way, don't miss VP Abtahi's description of the social role of coffee. Posted

Another terrorist event would be frightening, precisely because the Republicans have so much to gain from it. And I won't apologize for suggesting the possibility that if another one does happen, that is not some outside "terrorist" but an engineered event for the very purpose of securing power for themselves.
Have you seen this bizarre 9/11 weirdness?

Somewhere Martin Gardner has a piece on the it-couldn't-be-a-coincidence coincidences you can find if you look hard enough at the Washington Monument. E.g., the number of steps x the number of inches in its base circumference = the distance to the sun (yeah, not that exactly, but that sort of thing). So, no, I'm not impressed by the sort of numerology in the piece you point us to.

Give me a break! As a Canadian to the north, I just cringe at the pathetic state of America. Freedom day for Bush. Freedom from whom? If only the world could free itself from America, the most dangerous, out of control state on the earth.
Ms. Rice says 120,000 Iraqi troops at trained at yesterdays confirmation hearings. Even today, a day later, Biden called her on it but almost in a nice way. Why does America allow lies and deceit at its upper reaches?
Why should we have anything to do with America? Of course, Americans can hate us too, just like the French who were brave enough to stand their ground and present America just didn't have the facts right when it turned its back on the world and began a ruthless war.
It is absolutely sickening to the entire world to see the cowboy touting, god loving screwball Bush celebrate another term of politics, overseeing a nation foreigners conclude must be vastly dumb.

America must stand strong. We must not leave Iraq and we must now face Iran. God Bless America!
