Joho the Blog

I've blogged before (and now can't find it) about the phrases we tell people to help them find us through Google. For example, I might say, "Just google weinberger and joho and I'll be the first entry." Likewise, chris and gonzo puts Rageboy at the top, and worst and president brings up, well, take a guess. This morning I woke up with the word "googlenym" on my lips... Posted

I've been calling it the "google url" - the google search terms that stand in the place of the full url to get to the place we intend.
Interestingly, the "google url" is a retrieval of the famous Simonides story, of remembering by place and proximity (from which we ultimately derive topics, taxonomies and other such artefacts.)

Aha! Now that you said "google url," I could google "google url" and find when I talked about it before:

Since that day at the Digital Democracy Teach-in where you showed me an item I had JUST POSTED was the number one Google return for Joe Trippi, I've been too afraid to Google anything. Those are scary guys.

Why dink around with tossing keywords into the Google machine? It can be a crap shoot game. Give 'em a proven Google Link:
* it involves no typing of keywords (prone to peeple lik me who kannot tipe well)
* all one must do is click the results of your Google search
(Hmm, your comment robot is a pain in the butt, it refuses to accept a google URL, so substitute as appropriate):

Allow me to suggest a new verb: to 'google url' someone = 'to gurlgle'; as in "i can't remember his address, better gurlgle it."
(yes I know,I should get a life)

How about googurl? Gurlgle is too hard to say, odd to read. Googurl is obviously pronounceable.

Neologisms catch on if they fill a need, a gap in the language, or make many words into few.
How is "My googlenym is cat and dog" easier that "just google cat and dog" ?

Microdoc credited me with inventing the "Memomark". But basically it's another term for "Google URL" or "Googlenym".
PS: You can automatically create a Memomark using the Memomarker at http://blog.outer-court.com/memomarker/
I often find myself accessing a web-site by entering a memomark. It's very easy with Firefox where I just type e.g. "google jerz blog".
