Hello, I am a news Producer at KGO Radio, the number one radio station in San Francisco, California. I would like to make phone contact with bloggers who are helping to get the word out via blogs to find or help in any way the relief efforts to the victims of the catastropic disaster that hit Southern Asia. If anyone that reads this and can be available to join us for a brief live telephone interview this evening, please e-mail me your name and telephone number to the above e-mail address. We want to do our part in getting the word out to our listeners about other venues available and how via the Internet people can get involved, obtain information etc., Thank You.

The International Red Cross and Red Cresent Societies (www.ircs.org) and Save the Children (www.savethechildren.org) are mounting special efforts/accepting special donations for efforts in the wake of this tragedy.

We would like to suggest that the people of the United States innundate the White House, Republican Party, etc. to demand that they donate the $40 million they are planning to spend on the Bush 2nd term inaugural. It is only RIGHT the our rich nation and the rich contributors do this.

Nearly 10000 copies of this book have been sold. This is a reference book for young parents on good upbringing of their children.
$1 of each book that you buy goes to Tsunami relief in Asia.

The world grieves as the worst disaster in history has struck south Asia. The death toll continues to mount as the world grieves.

If you feel moved enough by this disaster to make a difference and make a donation, do it in a way that assures your donation will end up in the hands of those that so desperately need it.

I would like to suggest that those of us interested in sending donations do so through local chruches.

We are still reading about the UN oil for food program, and the corruption associated with it.

Many larger charities have large payrolls as well, and dollars donated frequently become pennies for victims through many of these groups.

Donations to local churches or temples with in the Asian community are more likely to end up where it is most needed, in the hands of victims through their families.

The other advantage is that donations to local Asian chruches or temples will help strengthen relations in your local community.

Please consider your local Asian churches and temples as the destination for your much needed donations.

We are donating 10 % of our GROSS SALES with immediate effect to disaster relief in South-East Asia .

TSUNAMI SRI LANKA: Autism Awareness Campaign International Appeal

The southern and east coast of Sri Lanka were devastated by the Tsunami - giant tidal waves smashed into the island killing thousands of innocent people including people with disabilities. Over a million were made homeless.Thousands of little children have died. Sri Lanka needs desperate help.

The Autism Awareness Campaign in Sri Lanka appeal for humanitarian assistance - we urge you to help the people of Sri Lanka. Please donate generously to humanitarian campaigns such as Christian Aid, Oxfam, UNICEF, Care International, World Vision and others.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has appealed to people around the world to help victims of the floods that struck Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Premier also expressed his thanks to the many countries that have pledged aid for the thousands affected by the tidal waves that followed an earthquake off the coast of Indonesia this morning.

This operation is being coordinated personally by the Prime Minister through his Secretary Lalith Weeratunga - people around the world can also send donations to the Office of the Prime Minister, Temple Trees, Galle Road, Colombo-3, Sri Lanka.

The Rotary Club of Colombo Regency in Sri Lanka [www.rotaryCregency.org] are formulating plans to channel relief to the areas where they are most needed in Sri Lanka. At a time of this national disaster the nation and its people must stand together. Stand together to help the million victims who have been displaced from their homes and loved ones. Not only have these people lost their family/loved ones they have lost everything except for the clothes on their back.

How you can help

The Rotary Club of Colombo Regency, plans to implement the relief effort in phases in order for it to be effective.

The immediate need is for water and dry food items like biscuits, and canned fish, as displaced people are unable to cook meals just yet. In addition, basic medicines and clothing are also essential.

The second phase in a few days will be to provide dry rations, milk powder etc. as hopefully by that time people would have been moved into refugee camps.

The third phase (5 to 7 days) would be to conduct health camps to prevent/treat any outbreak in disease caused by polluted water and lack of proper sanitation etc at the refugee camps.

In the longer term, rebuilding of life and property would take an enormous effort and would need worldwide help.

i suggest that all working us resident talk to their companies to contribute one days worth of salary to the tsunami victims by working instead of taking that one day vacation. in turn the company will contribute the salary to the relief efforts.

I, for one, am not comfortable donating directly to any listed bank account, possibly corrupt governments, or even to local churches (that probably do not have the necessary channels to get the money where it is most needed).

There seem to be a lot of us who want to volunteer our personal services verses money. I've been trying for days to join an organized group in order to help with logistics, distribution, or whatever. I have building skills, computer skills, and I'm not afraid of sleeping in a tent with minimal survival items. I'm currently umenployed, willing and able to help yet so far I've found no organized group to go over to SE Asia with. Does anyone have any suggestions of who to contact??

Rs737,500 Disbursed to 3 GIVE Partner NGOs for Relief Projects

Livelihood Restoration of 2,000+ Fishermen's Families
Several fishermen have lost their daily source of income as their boats are damaged. The sooner their boats are repaired they will be back on their feet and to support themselves. Four to five families depend on one boat.
The project will support around 2,250 fishermen families belonging to 18 villages of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram mandals (blocks) of Andhra Pradesh. It will help them to repair their boats damaged by Tsumani waves. The repair of 450 boats will cost Rs337,500 at Rs750 per boat. Within 7-10 days this will be implemented.
Implementing Organistion: Association for Rural Development and Action Research
Amount: Rs337,500
Feedback Expected: Organisation will give a feedback report on utilisation of disbursed funds by January 15, 2005. The report will include a list of beneficiaries with their names, village name, signature/ thumb impression and the photographs of each group of fishermen alongwith their repaired boats.

Safe Drinking Water for 5,600 people of Nagapattinam for 2 days
It is important to keep people in relief camps in good health till normalcy is restored. Led by Dr. Srinivasan of Jeevan, a team is working in Nagapattinam to ensure that 5,600 people get safe drinking water. The project will support around 5,600 people residing in 7 relief camps in Nagapattinam area of Tamilnadu. They will provided safe drinking water for 2 days from the contribution. The cost of providing water is Rs150,000 per day (30,000 bottles of 1.5 litres each of mineral water at Rs5 per bottle).
Jeevan is taking care to see that water is actually consumed by the people and not "sold off" as it sometimes happens in trying times.
Implementing Organistion: Jeevan Blood Bank and Research Centre
Amount: Rs300,000
Feedback Expected: Organisation will give a feedback report on utilisation of disbursed funds by January 10, 2005. The report will include the dates on which water was distributed, name of the relief camps, number of beneficiaries supported and the photographs of distribution of water.

Several people in the interiors are awaitng immediate medical attention. The Hindu Mission Hospital conducts mobile health camps as a regular activity. In fact one of their camps was hit while in progress on that fateful Sunday. Undettered by their personal tragedy, HMH's team has being going around conducting camps in close co ordination with the local administration. The project will support the expenses incurred towards medical camps organised on Dec 30 and 31, 2004 in Tsunami affected areas of Tamilnadu. It will be used towards treatment of injured people and dispensing medicines. The cost of organising the camps is on an average Rs50,000 per day.
Implementing Organistion: Hindu Mission Hospital
Amount: Rs100,000
Feedback Expected: Organisation will give a feedback report on utilisation of the disbursed grant along with the photographs by January 31, 2005.

One of the most effective ways to assist in responding to this disaster is here at home in your own community. For example:

Organize a fundraising event for victims of the tsunami. CRS is urgently seeking financial contributions so that we can help people in the affected areas. Contributions can be made on-line.
Contact your diocese to find out how you can support their fundraising activities. Click here to find out who the CRS diocesan director in your diocese is.
Invite a speaker to your parish who can talk about the region and the effect of this natural disaster on the people who live there. Seek out religious, peace corp volunteers, or others from the diocese who may have lived or worked in the region.

Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the overseas relief, development, and social justice arm of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB) is seeking potential candidates to staff emergency relief and development efforts in Southeast Asia.

A 9.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Indonesia, on December 26. It generated a tsunami with waves as high as 30 feet crashing to shore, causing extensive damage and loss of life in the hardest-hit coastal areas of India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia.

In responding to this great tragedy Catholic Relief Services is seeking out with expertise in emergency programming, specifically with experience or training in:

I realize everyone is gung ho to help right now but I honestly feel money is more important than manpower. Its going to be months and years before some rebuilding will even start. I just hope everyone who wants to help today feels the same when help is needed 5-10 years from now. The rebuilding will probably take a generation or two and some towns may never exist again. 20 bucks will do more good right now than boat loads of eager manpower. If you really want to help then sit tight, there will be ample opportunity.

I can not understand how a highly skilled and motivated volunteer can not even find any place to contact about helping in the tsunami disaster. I have also been looking and I have Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering background with Organizational/project manager skills and also have much experience in construction/excavating/heavy equipment operation and others. Other than doctors and water experts, I think I would rank rather highly for being desired there now and later but It seems like no one wants us, only cash.

Before you rush to book a ticket, I encourage you to ask yourself- how much will a plane ticket cost from your home to Sri Lanka? How many bags of rice would that buy, how many water purification tablets? We are lucky that we have the luxury of considering spending hundreds, even thousands of dollars so that we as individuals can feel like we are contributing to the relief effort, but what could those dollars mean when contributed towards the immediate needs of food, clean water and temporary shelter?

One solution (not simple) would be to contact any of the following airlines (which service the only international airport in Sri Lanka-Colombo Intl Ariport) to see if they might be interested in donating tickets for volunteers/volunteer groups:

I am eager to go help out with the tsunami relief effort. The catch is that I only have the time and the want, but lack the funds. Maybe you have the funds and the want, but can't leave your family or job?? Let's arrange something. You can help me with the plane ticket, and together we can make a huge impact. There are two organizations I'm looking at, United Volunteers - based in Thialand and focused on rebuilding homes and structures, as well as basic clean up. Also, Food for Life Global - based in Sri Lanka and providing vegetarian food for refugee camps. I am leaning toward the latter, as I have found more information concerning the groups history and success in that region.

Shizuko makes a very good point about how the money a volunteer spends on an airline ticket could buy a great deal of food/water/equipment for those in the area of need, and this needs to be considered. I myself have been going from one extreme to the other with trying to decide on how much help I could bring to the area...

However, I have decided to travel to Sri Lanka, and do some work under the Global Crossroads guidance, as I believe that while my contribution may not be earth moving, it will be effective in three ways:

1) Besides my physical labour itself, the money I spend on the ground - food, shelter...etc - will go into the immediate economy.

2) As a former EFL teacher, I can hopefully contribute to one of the most important psychological aspects of getting their lives together, and that's getting the traumatised kids back into learning and having fun. It's an old saying, but there's nothing like laughter as the best medicine.

3) Though the events themselves have resulted in a change within myself, I am certain that being there will do even more so, and I intend to come back home and focus my domestic efforts on helping those in areas of the world who are a little less fortunate than we in more developed countries are. Sounds a little hollow without actions to back it up, but I am feeling a fundamental shift in my goals and priorities. Time will tell, but it is time to let me actions speak louder than words, hence my journey.

I am a skilled Journey Man Carpenter that has spent time in Thailand as well as other parts of the middle east
