Guest blogging at Tom Peters

I'm doing a little guest blogging at Tom Peters' blog. For example, I just posted something about Netflix's way of deciding who gets which titles when...

As I've said before, I'm a big admirer of Tom, so I'm thrilled to get to blog there for a bit. [Technorati tag: TomPeters]

Egad, David! You, a proponent of social justice and fairness, a big admirer of Tom Peters? The same Tom Peters who fabricated the information that comprised his launching pad to the stratosphere of fame, In Search of Excellence? That could maybe, possibly, be excused (after all, we all make it up as we go along to some extent... he just got, ahem, a little carried away with the creativity. Of course, if one of my students gave me that, I'd have them drawn and quartered. :)

But that is nothing compared to his being the poster boy for the "fast capitalist" discourse of the "new work order." You need some enlightening, my friend. Check out The New Work Order: Behind the Language of the New Capitalism by James Paul Gee, Glynda Hull, Colin Lankshear. It will allow you to read Peters in a very different frame.

Mark, I'll eventually enlighten myself. In the meantime, I admire Tom for telling a rigid corporate world that enabling your employees to be innovative and to live their lives is actually good for business. And for his tireless championing of gender equity.

I've also found him to be incredibly generous intellectually. He delights in crediting other people for having good ideas.

So, sure, I'm willing to have his lid ripped off, exposing some seamy underbelly, but I'm still going to admire what I admire about him.
