Measure twice, cut once, backup three times

Today I found out why I make two backups every night. It's because, sure as snow gets in your boots, when you really really need a backup, one of them is going to turn out to be corrupt.

Fanaticism has its rewards.

what backup software/routine are you using?

My first line of defense is Second Copy which simply makes a zipped copy every night; that copy goes on a USB hard drive. I use a batch file to copy that zip file to my wife's computer upstairs. In case something goes wrong with the zipped copy, I also use a German program called Snapshot (available at www.tinyurl.org) every night to mirror my root drive onto a separate internal drive. I also back up my Quicken files and a few other especially valuable ones to the Web using backup.com. (I haven't checked in a while and there are probably better services than that around now.)

Every now and then I remember to make a DVD of photos and docs and take it next door to a friend's house. I continue to have hope for a p2p backup solution that has enough smarts so that a friend and I can back up onto each other's drives.

thanks for replying. I checked tinyurl.org for snapshot, but it doesn't exist there.

No, treo, it doesn't exist there, and for a very good and obvious reason: I am a moron. I meant http://www.tinyapps.org. Here's the link:

D'oh! Sorry for the trouble.
