Karl Rove: Apologize, resign, or both

As a liberal, I'm not insulted by Karl Rove's remark that "liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers." He's just demagoging based on a seed of truth: I do want to understand our attackers (because it's stupid in n dimensions not to understand the people you're fighting) and I do want a nuanced, well-thought-out response that will actually make my children safer, rather than the kneejerk Bomb Someone strategery we got from Bush and Rove. So, fine, politicians exaggerate the positions they don't like and even end up stating utter falsehoods like Rove's.

No, what gets my goat is his unthought assumption that every issue and event is fodder for political advantage. So he goes into the very city where firefighters ran up the stairs instead of down, and he mouths off to score some points at a fund-raiser? Tell me now who doesn't take 9/11 seriously, the liberals or callow, unfeeling, assroves like him? This split from reality — he was in New York City! — is where evil takes root.

Karl Rove should apologize or resign...apologize not because our poor widdle feelings are hurt but to acknowledge that reality still matters. [Thanks to the Daou Report for links and fire.] [Technorati tags: KarlRove 911]

"unthought"? It's generous to think so. But do you really know what this beast is capable of thinking or unthinking?

David, I did the same two-step it looks like you did: pissed off at Rove, rationalize my calling for him to be shitcanned by appealing to something other than my anger at him calling all liberals pansies.

But, to be fair, we just got finished (or I did) defending Dick Durbin's right to make his similarly outrageous remarks without being drummed out of the Senate. And he uttered his on the floor of the Senate, not at some private GOP fundraiser.

Bottom line, for me, is that politicians, on both sides, use whatever rhetorical device they can to try to get their message across. Rove didn't equate us with Nazis -- just the appeasers.

Cassford, I actually meant what I said. I don't feel hurt personally. I'm not pissed of at him for characterizing me wrongly. But I do find it dangerously split from reality to come to NYC to politicize the murders at the WTC.

As for Durbin: What he said is literally true. It was purposefully distorted for political advantage. All part of the game. The fact that what Durbin said was true and what Rove said was false matters.

Apologize? Resign?

This outside observer thinks Karl Rove should be investigated, prosecuted and maybe put in jail. For a long time.

Given Mr. Rove's attorney has now admitted that Mr. Rove was the source of disclosing that Joe Wilson's spouse was a CIA operative, it is now time for Mr. Rove to step down as Mr. W's henchman, accept responsibilty, i.e., plead guilty, thus avoiding the need of the government to spend needless dollars prosecuting him, and proceed to jail. Another case of absolute power, corrupting absolutely.

If Rove did leak the information about Wilson's CIA agent wife he should be poltically barried if not sent to jail. I can't believe there isn't more uproar. Wilson's wife did not lose her life thanfully by being outed, but what about all of her contacts in Niger who are now also exposed. It is possible that Rove is responsible for peoples' deaths. Think back to the countless public figures who have had personal sexual improprities and have been removed from office. Rove has done something far worse, he has disrespected his position and our national sequrity for political revenge.

I personally have no political party affiliation. Moreover, keeping the previous fact in mind I think that any person regardless of the political position should not put any person in jepardy. No person can convince me that by exposing Wilson's wife whether by name or not did not put her in jepardy. She was an agent for the United States. Whether you agree with what she or her husband was doing exposing her was wrong. Rove put her life in danger. In my opinion exposing an undercover operative should be treason. I understand that I most likely am in the minority, but I feel he should be on trial for treason. Also, does anybody think that Bush's recent change of opinion on firing Rove is a little sketchy. Mr. President, please put the future of this country ahead of your friends legacy and his career. You work for the people of this great nation of the United States of America, not your friends.

Why do you suppose Karl Rove's mother commited suicide? Because she couldn't live knowing she had created such evil? Or did little Karl get so sick from living with a suicidal mother? Or was his real father's rejection of them both the real cause? Any thoughts

I think it was Tom Delay who made those comments about 9/11 and not Karl Rove.

Posted by: Lisa | July 26, 2007 12:48 AM

The NY Times and MSNBC think it was Rove. Do you have any evidence for thinking it was Delay?
