The vigil in Brookline went better than I'd expected. 75-100 people showed up, mailny baby boomers and their parents. We stood at the intersection of two of the major streets, held signs and candles, and chatted with our neighbors. Yeah, I know it was supposed to be a silent vigil, but talking seemed more useful. One of the protestors said, "It just shows that one person really can make a difference." Well, yeah. But two can't: Cindy Sheehan focused our attention, and the second gold star mom who demands an audience with Bush will not have the same effect. So, I think the mathematical formulation is: One person can make a difference. Two people can't. Twenty million can. [Tags: CindySheehan iraq] Posted

Cindy Sheehan is an "Attention Whore" and this is all about HER. She is shaming the memory of her son and her country. The only thing she is helping is the company that sells the candles for the silly candlelight vigils. I wonder why her son went to live with his Father and stepmother years ago. Sheehan is bathing in all the attention SHE is getting. I wouldn't follow this nut to the grocery store. Somebody get her some Estrogen........Dave

Man, there sure seem to be allot of Daves and Davids around here ;-).
I can't help but wonder if, by adopting Cindy Sheehan as the movement's "poster child", the anti-Iraq War/anti-Bush folks aren't making the same mistake the Left made when it hitched its fortunes to Bill Clinton. This woman has some serious problems. Those in the choir who agree with her may be willing to overlook things about her, but the same can't be said for the rest of the public.

I doubt that many people came out for Cindy Sheehan herself, though I expect anyone would respect her feelings as a bereaved mother. Rather, most who showed up must have turned out for the message she embodies.
Getting into psychological analyses of the players invites speculation as to why the president didn't walk down the driveway a couple of hours after she showed up, to spend twenty minutes and either convince her of his side of the story, or gain the respect of most for having made the attempt. Alternatively, now that she has become a story, he could do the same any day now, have a zillion TV cameras and news photographers record the event, get on the nightly news, and relieve and hearten his supporters, who must be getting tired of defending his efforts to avoid anyone who expresses opposition.
Of course, maybe he doesn't want to risk having 2,070 Gold Star moms make their way to the plains of Texas....

But David (W), surely two people can make a difference, if they team up. Or if the second one differs from the different one.

People sure do hate Cindy Sheehan. She must be effective.

Sheehan is an attention whore. A real grieving mother would never pose for so many damn pictures.
Her son enlisted TWICE. She also met with Bush a year ago and was happy with the meeting. Now suddenly she changes her mind and is demanding a second meeting? Hah.
She also is using it to push her isolationist and leftish agenda: She has called for the disintigration of Isreal and troops to be removed from Afghanistan as well. She even said had her son died in Afghanistan, she would be doing the same thing.
Cindy,
WHEN WILL YOU GET OUT OF CRAWFORD! We demand our headlines be returned to us! We want an EXACT time schedule for when you will leave Texas alone! We are NOT going to settle for your overly ambiguous "When Bush goes back to work, I'll leave Crawford" garbage! We want an exact timeframe for you pulling out of Crawford NOW!
We don't care if your "job" isn't finished, Cindy. In fact, we don't even know for sure you HAD any real reason to go to Crawford in the first place. You claim it is because Bush is insensitive and dishonest, but after you originally met with him, you said nothing of the sort. You are in Crawford because of a LIE, Cindy! When will you pull out???
**** See how silly that sounds? I hope you are entirely embarassed by your own comments about getting out of Iraq. Just because people speak a different language, pray to a different god, or wear different clothing doesn't mean they can't appreciate freedom and democracy. It was for this cause that your son died. You are making a mockery of him and his values. How do you even sleep at night knowing the dishonor you are heaping upon his grave?
