AKMA raises question about The Da Vinci Code that advance the discussion beyond the canapes served at Jesus' wedding and the resurrection of the mullet. (I read the first page of the book and put it down. And I haven't seen the movie.) [Tags: akma da_vinci_code movies theology] Posted

Wow, you managed not to link in that post.
Via the combined technological wizardry of the wisdom of the crowds / the long tail / mashups (aka, a search engine), here's the link.

Are we still debating whether a fictional book is a better source of historical fact than historical books?

I think the debate is framed around whether we should base our faith in g-d on a trashy novel or on our own interpretations of the Surgeon General's Warning on the side of a cigarette package or on some other textual matter entirely. The subject matter experts stand ready to mediate and help us shape our understanding.
I like the part where it rained frogs and the Nile turned to blood and Charleton Heston raised his AK47 skyward and parted the Red Sea.
