Our electrician, Walter Nowicki (yeah yeah, he should get a wiki, haha) replaced an old plug and thought I might want to blog about it. He's right. The house is about 100 years old. Walter guesses the plug might be 60 years old...

This is not an unusual plug in our house. In fact, the laptop I am writing this on is plugged into one right now!
However, we did have a lot of the main floor of our house re-wired when we moved in. The lack of a grounded plug for my wife's computer and the fridge kind of made this a priority.

Our house still has its original phone wiring from the outside up to the first floor, dating back to the 1930s, based on the date-stamped New England Telephone & Telegraph inspection tag still hanging from it (amazingly, it's good enough for DSL).

I'm moving into a house that has a couple of those plugs, but no one (including my electrician) seems to know what kind they are. Is it 110V AC, 220V DC, AC/DC, what...? I kinda need to know. If you could help me, I'd GREATLY appreciate it!

Steve, I think it's a 110v outlet, as does at least one commenter who apparently is using it as such. But I'm not sure and you should find out before you plug something into it, especially something that: a. Is flammable or b. You care about.
