i've only read the first few paragraphs of lanier's essay, but i've gotta say, after trying to edit a page on wikipedia a month ago (adding a link to the greensboro massacre page to point to my brother's blogumentary), the process was painful -- as much as lanier trying to change his own bio page.

that experience isn't illustrative of my overall perspective of wiki's, but man, it was annoyingly painful trying to deal with some of the egomaniacs over there...
