Let's Impeach the President - The Lyrics

Here are the lyrics to Neil Young's "Let's Impeach the President"

Let's impeach the president for lying
And leading our country into war
Abusing all the power that we gave him
And shipping all our money out the door

He¹s the man who hired all the criminals
The White House shadows who hide behind closed doors
And bend the facts to fit with their new stories
Of why we have to send our men to war

Let¹s impeach the president for spying
On citizens inside their own homes
Breaking every law in the country
By tapping our computers and telephones

What if Al Qaeda blew up the levees
Would New Orleans have been safer that way
Sheltered by our government¹s protection
Or was someone just not home that day?

Let's impeach the president
For hijacking our religion and using it to get elected
Dividing our country into colors
And still leaving black people neglected

Thank god he¹s racking down on steroids
Since he sold his old baseball team
There's lot of people looking at big trouble
But of course the president is clean

Thank God

And here's a link to an interview with Neil Young on Showbiz Tonight in which the first question is "You've got a song called 'Let's Impeach the PResident.' What is the song about?"

The Neil Young site is still streaming the entire album. The album in some ways reminds me of John Lennon, who I still miss.

As a long-time fan of Neil's, I am not surprised that it is he that takes the lead in protesting the government. Congress supresses independent inquiry and -- interestingly -- majority public opinion follows close suit. Sure his popularity ratings are down, but where are any honest signs of outrage? Neil provides a hell of start. As he so aptly put in his CNN spot: "No one owns a unique idea and opinion of 9-11. The president has his and I have mine as does everyone else their own. It just happens that fewer and fewer people agree with the president's take on it." [Sorry, I paraphrase, but the idea carries.]

I thought the reaction of the woman interviewing Neil was interesting, when the host in the studio asserted that Neil wasn't trying to ride a wave of public sentiment to sell records. She just went "Mmmmm" and gave what appeared to me to be a forced smile.

A lot of people like to get on Neil Young for protesting a government that's not even his own. I adamently protest the Ugandan government that allows the LRA to forcefully conscript 10 year-old children into the army even though I'm not a Ugandan. Sometimes the truth is best seen from a third party.

Nice making money off the backs of our dead soldiers. Take that check straight to the bank Neil and feel good about it. See you in Hell! maybe he'll get to sit next to Bin Laden Saddam and Hitler, What great seats he'll have!

To Ron Zalewski:
You must be another victim of the bush media monarchy- Neil Young ISN'T taking the lead in protesting this prez. Remember the marches on DC, LA, London, Paris, Stockholm, Rome, Moscow, Tokyo, Beijing and Sydney? Remember the POPE, for God's sake, publicly praying for peace in St. Peter's Square? Remember them, THEN say Neil Young is taking the lead.

I'm a lifelong Republican, sick and tired of the Bush administration. Neil is preachy on the left, but I like to see some of that 60s character reborn - amen for freedom of speech. And Bush is not only a horrible president, he is not even a Republican, certainly not in any Reagan mold. I can't wait for a clensing of the GOP so I can have confidence in voting republican once again.

NEIL YOUNG WILL NEVER RUN

I hear Neil Young,he wrote a song
That lays it on the line;
It's called,"Let's Impeach the President";
His writing style's sure fine.
Now,folks will argue right and left-
But they ain't got it done;
Instead,why don't they
Really dump George Bush?-
The battle isnt won!
Now just because some artist sings
And picks up a guitar;
Now hordes of people act as if
he was their avatar;
The fact is, Neil Youg'll never run-
Even if they do impeach;
So,it's all poop-they send more troops-
Now what does all that teach?
The people-yes!-they like to talk-
Then let it all go on;
But though we write,what have we done?
The war's still going on.
We're glad-they killed Zarqawi-
That will never stop the war;
Cuz we've still got Bush
Let's dump his tush-
That's the way we'll stop the war!

Thank you brother Neil

Who knew a canadian would be more American than an American. You have gone the distance alot further than our politicians have. Unfortunately the effort hasn't gathered enough steam. Hollywood is silent on the issue and our news is being censored. Bring back the hippys, We need them to save us....Again

It amazes me that people don't see what is going on in this world right now. Innocent kids dying fighting a war, gas prices going up, laws being made over religious beliefs and once again the rich get richer while the poor can't even afford to buy gas or heating oil for their homes. He has lied to us all more then Clinton who you were all ready to impeach over a sexual act which was no one's business but his own.

Neil Young is not saying anything that half of all americans are not thinking. He just had the chance more then us to have his voice heard. If he rots in hell well then I hope I am there rotting with him cause I agree with him 100 percent!!

Who is making money off the backs of dead soldiers? Neil Young or maybe George Bush, Dick Cheney and company?

A correction to the lyrics:
"Let's impeach the President for lying
And MISleading our country into war"
Neil Young is clearly one of our country's greatest living revolutionaries. Who's with me?

To msfanni -
It is painfully obvious that you're one of the 50,0001% of Americans who voted for the idiot-puppet living in the White House.

It also looks as if you may have, unfortunately, lost a son or other loved one in the Idiot's private war on 'terror.'

The crux of the matter is, is that if the Idiot had finished his business in Afghanistan, then Osama would be dead, the Muslims wouldn't be incensed by the happenings in Iraq, and the Republicans would be marching onward to a third straight Presidential term.

It's about time artists with conscious start doing what they did 30-35 years ago: say 'stop!'

My wife bought the Young album for me as a Christmas gift, and it will be treasured as 'classic' rock - just as much as was 'Ohio' ballad which was also a protest song (after Nixon killed the students at Kent State Univ.). Of course, back then, we agreed with him - even though he was Canadian and had only lived in the states for 5-6 years. Today, Bush has - like Young sings - 'spied on citizens in their own homes.'

Are you Americans so damned blind that you accept everything without being at least a little critical?? The government not only controls the media - it also controls the people of the United States.

The artists - like Neil Young - are the only ones who aren't controlled by the media (which, in turn, is controlled by the Bush administration). We - the buyers of music - are the only ones who can clip Neil Young's wings. Luckily, it won't happen. C'mon folks, get out there and make Neil Young's newest CD a quadruple platinum-seller. Send a serious message to the rich little twerp in the White House!

Rock on Neil! And thanks for your political engagement.
