The one thing I've noticed that's lacking in blog systems is for any mechanism to invite a member of one's audience to engage, e.g. by asking a question.
I wonder if this is simply because blogs were unconsciously designed as self-'traditional publishing' tools, i.e. the traditional publisher's authoritarian one-way mindset, but made easy enough for the domestic user.
There is of course on-topic comments or off-topic e-mail for a feedback mechanism, but I've not yet seen a blog that attempted to incorporate a sort of 'ask-the-blogger' publicly visible back-channel.
