It's a college town, with three of 'em, including one founded in 1451. It is becoming the arts center of Scotland, even thought that other city has the big festival. The architectural styles are highly mixed. The museums are free because they belong to the people. The grain silos are closed, but the city is on the upswing. The Wellington memorial statue in front of the Museum of Modern Art always has a traffic cone on its head. Posted

Were you at dinner with Glaswegians by any chance? They've been saying that for as long as I can remember. Good luck to them, but note that - just as 'almost' implies 'not' - 'is becoming' implies 'isn't yet'.

And you never learned that there is an ancient rivalry between Glaswegians (among whose number I'm proud to count myself) and people from that other city in Scotland.
And the social pressure one feels when one is inclined to misbehave on other people's properties is all that stands between my inner Glaswegian's desire to perpetuate the divide further still and this objective comment. Grrr.
