Nice demonstration page.
I'd predict this should work in reverse; i.e. a "circle" of strobing green dots should produce an illusory, magenta, dot.
Further, the demo should also be able to display the same effect for other primary complimentary colors, as in...
...blue dots should produce a yellow, illusory, dot (and the reverse)
...red dots should produce a cyan, illusory, dot (and the reverse)
I suspect this has nothing to do with the layout of the dots. In fact, this example would likely work with one single hued, quickly strobing dot (or other simple shape) when displayed against a neutral gray background.
