Karen Schneider, the Free Range Librarian, has intensely practical notes on how to get your Word Press 2.2 upgrade to go relatively smoothly. Number one on her list: "If your ISP offers "one-click upgrade," STOP. Don't just press that button! Read the WordPress upgrade instructions end-to-end and then proceed with caution." Thank you, Karen. [Tags: wordpress karen_schneider] Posted

You're welcome... part of the essential coolness (and added value) of open source software is not having to hide a discussion about a product behind some wall.

I used to have issues with Dreamhost's one-click install until I created new directories for themes I tweaked.
So I may tweak someone else's theme to suit my needs, but I create a new directory in the themes folder with a name of my choosing and copy all of the files from the original theme to the tweaked theme (I sometimes even take a screenshot so it is easier to choose from the control panel). Then when the one-click updates the original theme (the one I tweaked) it ignores the theme directory I created. This has saved me some serious headaches.
That is the only challenge I have encountered with one-click upgrades and I find it sooooo much easier than following the official instructions.
