Welcome, Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin seems to be an upstanding citizen. A model citizen, even. She’s worked hard, she’s fought some entrenched interests, she’s taken the initiative, she’s maintained her values…all while raising what seems to be a fine family. Welcome to the national stage.

I only put in the weasel “seems” word because I know so little about her. So: She also seems to be the least qualified vice presidential candidate in modern history. Her lack of preparation to assume the office of the presidency shows an abysmal lack of judgment on John McCain’s part, and a reckless putting of his campaign ahead of his country.

The Wikipedia the Sarah Palin entry is informative, but the discussion page is and even better source of information…the best source of info on her I’ve seen so far.

  1. Indeed she is the least-qualified VP choice I’ve ever seen, apparently an impulsive choice on McCain’s part, and as you say indicative of poor judgment.

Who’s the least qualified presidential nominee in recent history? I’d suggest that a state legislator with no record of achievement would fill the bill. I don’t consider running a campaign a qualification, just a quirk of our system.

We seem to be overly impressed by pretty people in politics these days.

  2. Here resume still far exceeds that of the head of the Democrat party.

  3. to me,
it looks like the political equivalent of a using a nice girl on a car to sell it

why he didn’t choose a more qualified women ?

  4. […] tip to Joho for pointing to the discussion page at the Wikipedia concerning Sarah Palin’s entry. […]

  5. I don’t consider running a campaign a qualification

Why not? Building a brand new and amazingly efficient political machine from the ground up, and then successfully harnessing it to win against an opponent that Republicans have been unsuccessfully trying to tear down for over a decade, takes quite a bit more organisational ability, and provides far more “executive” experience at the national level, than chairing a PTA meeting, or being a governor of any state at all.

  6. Sarah Palin gave birth to a baby with Down’s Syndrome at the age of 44.

Is anyone else appalled at this?

The risk of giving birth to a baby with Down’s Syndrome is extremely high in women over 40 (and even higher when the father is also over 40).

Sarah Palin “opposes the use of birth control pills and condoms even among married couples”.

I am disgusted by this irresponsible behaviour. To give birth at age 44 to a baby with Down’s because you refuse to use birth control inexcusable. Ignoring the dangers that you expose yourself and your baby to by refusing to use birth control after 40 is negligent and careless. To believe that a woman like this has the opportunity to become Vice President of the United States of America in 2008 makes me ill.

Does anyone else share this opinion?

  7. Can you cite a source for this? I’ve been trying to find concrete proof one way or the other.

  8. she is the usual Republican CHICKEN HAWK. she was 24 years old when Bush the First invaded Kuwait to fight the Evildoer Saddam Hussein. Palin did NOT support the troops by joining the volunteer army. But she likes to shoot moose. You know why? moose don’t shoot back!

  9. Some sobering thought for both sides in the Sarah Palin frenzy.

I never heard of her before Friday’s announcement. I immediately googled her and found some fascinating material. Keep in mind this was before all the new pages appeared so all the articles were on what see had actually done. OMG!

Everyone seems assured Biden will destroy her in the VP debate.
Newsflash, 2 years ago she debated the sitting GOP Governor, who also happened to have spent over 20 years in the US Senate, and killed him and won the election in a landslide.

Every seems assured she wont hold up without a teleprompter.
Watch this video interview with Newsweek on female governors last march.

There seems to have been a 2 year old grassroots effort to get her to VP, first for Rudy, and only later for Jonnie. Look for the older stuff on this site; front page is RA RA for her now.
Was she behind this? Is this part of HER overall plan?

Newsflash for the GOP bigwigs that think they can use her to stay in power and forget about her, that’s what all the Alaskan GOP bigwigs thought to, they don’t have jobs now. She is so hated by the old time GOP powers that her name is not mentioned on the GOP’s state website.
“In the roughly three years since she quit as the state’s chief regulator of the oil industry, Palin has crushed the Republican hierarchy (virtually all male) and nearly every other foe or critic. Political analysts in Alaska refer to the “body count” of Palin’s rivals. “The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah,” says pollster Dave Dittman, who worked for her gubernatorial campaign. It includes Ruedrich, Renkes, Murkowski, gubernatorial contenders John Binkley and Andrew Halcro, the three big oil companies in Alaska, and a section of the Daily News called “Voice of the Times,” which was highly critical of Palin and is now defunct.“

Funniest video take on Sarah, done by 2 guys who think there slamming her, just like Archie Bunker was supposed to be making fun of people like him.

  10. She is NOT anti-birth control, per Time Magazine.
Get your facts straight. Dems are so unnerved by her that they are creating their own facts.

Frogcatcher is quoting a blog that does not give a source. Rumor mongering does not replace facts, as much as the Dems would like it to.

  11. Weblink to Time article re: her stand on birth control:,28804,1837523_1837531_1837538,00.html

  12. There is much more to come out on her, just see!
