Beliefnet Returns

Beliefnet is back online. Last time I looked, it wasn’t there. Good. It’s the type of experiment I personally want to succeed: a shared space for talk about religion that tries to be respectful of differences. Getting that balance right is difficult — or, put technically, impossible — but there’s room in the world for lots of attempts.

I found out about the rebirth of Beliefnet because Steve Waldman, the editor in chief, has a diary (Remember diaries? They’re like blogs but more tied to daily events) in Slate, recording his group’s comeback from bankruptcy. Informative and charming.

I was on a panel with Steve a couple of years ago and liked him immediately. My respect for him has only grown.

  2. Beliefnet is spamming me. I cannot get them to turn it off. None of their unsubscribe features work.

Anyone who sends emails so many times per day should request a positive response from an address before allowing it to be added to their lists. Otherwise they become a conduit for harassment. Other people can sign you up against your will and Beliefnet will flood you forever without your being able to do anything to stop it.

When it is unrequested, unwanted and unstoppable it is spam.

Anyone who knows how to contact anyone at Beliefnet, tell them to amend their ways. And to please unsubscribe me. “Block sender” lists can be added only for so long before they are impediments to checking your own email for the long delays they cause.

  3. RE:Beliefnet.. the only way to get around beliefnet spam is to go to the change address portion and change the email address. That stops the spam.

May I suggest you use [email protected].
    Appeared to work for me.
